Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Villawood sits in the centre of Sydney’s COVID-19 outbreak, straddling the borders of the Fairfield and Canterbury-Bankstown local government areas that are recording dozens of new cases a day.
“It’s a bit too close to home,” said principal Sonia Tannous.
Chairs were stacked and the school quiet on Monday. Kindergarten parents picked up learning booklets from a trolley outside the front office and teaching staff masked up while preparing for term three, which begins for thousands of students in greater Sydney tomorrow with a week of remote learning.
“We’ll be OK because we’ve gone through this before,” Ms Tannous said. “We’ve got great support from the community, up to date information … We’re making sure all [community] members are feeling OK and safe and we will get through it.”
